What we believe
Faith with an open hand
Disciples have never been a creed-heavy people. We hold to the heart of the Christian faith and trust one another with the rest. Here's what that looks like, in plain language.
“We are a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one Body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's Table as God has welcomed us.”
— The identity statement of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
The Lord's Table is open to all
Communion is the center of how Disciples worship, and most congregations — including ours — share it every single Sunday. The invitation is wide open: you don't have to be a member, and you don't have to belong to our church or any church. The table belongs to Christ, who welcomes everyone, so we do too.
Baptism as a personal “yes” to God
Disciples practice baptism as a choice each person makes to follow God's call, rather than a decision made for them as an infant. It's a joyful step of faith — and a sign that every believer is called to serve God, what the early church called “the priesthood of all believers.” Wherever your own baptism happened, you are family here.
Scripture, read thoughtfully
We take the Bible seriously enough to read it carefully. Rather than handing people a list of required beliefs, Disciples encourage everyone to study Scripture for themselves — paying attention to its history and context, and listening for how God still speaks through it today. Questions are welcome at every step.
Unity in Christ, with room for difference
A long-loved Disciples saying captures it well: “no creed but Christ.” We're united by our shared trust in Jesus, not by agreement on every question. That means you can sit beside someone who sees a few things differently and still call each other family. We'd rather major on what unites us.
A welcome that's actually wide
Disciples are a mainline Protestant church with a deep instinct for hospitality. Whoever you are, whatever your background, however long it's been since you set foot in a church — there is a place for you here. Welcome comes first.
Service and justice as part of the gospel
Faith isn't only for Sunday. Following Jesus leads us out into the world — to care for neighbors, work for healing and fairness, and partner with others for the good of our community. Disciples cooperate gladly with other churches and people of goodwill toward wholeness in a hurting world.
Following Jesus, together
In the end, it all comes back to Jesus. We're a community trying — imperfectly, but honestly — to follow his way of love, grace, and service. You don't need to have it all sorted out to walk that road with us. You only need to be willing to take the next step.
Still have questions?
Good — bring them with you
Faith is a conversation, not a final exam. If something here resonates (or puzzles you), we'd love to talk it through over coffee.
